Using Kaltura CaptureSpace Lite

UNM Learn's integrated media tools, Kaltura media, offers a standalone app that can be used to create screencasts, webcam recordings, audio recordings and more!  It is easy to use and has lots of great features. 

A Word about My Media...
My Media is the only place for downloading CaptureSpace Lite.  And aside from allowing you to access CaptureSpace Lite, My Media is very handy in and of itself!  It is a central repository--all your media files accessible to all your courses.  The My Media tool is also the only place to Delete, Edit, and Share ownership of your media resources.

Add a Link to the My Media course module.

Depending on the class workflow, you can add links to My Media several different places: the Course Menu, a Content Page (~Course Information), and /or  the Course Dashboard. 

How to add My Media to the Course Menu >Add Module Page

    1. Go to your Course Menu (top left part of your screen). 
    2. Click the plus sign ( + ).
    3. Click Module Page.
    4. Give it a Name (Ex. My Media).
    5. Put a check in Available to Users.  (If it is just a short-cut for you, then leave off the check.  And remember, you can use the drop-down menu to the right of the item to toggle it on and off at any time.)
    6. Click Submit.
   
7. Click your new link to open it.
    8. Click Add Course Module / My Media  -  Add.
    9. Scroll down and click Okay.

How to add My Media to a Content Area (ex. Course Information) >Add Module Page

    1. Click to open an existing Content Area (ex.: the Course Information page in UNM Learn template courses). Or create a new one - click the plus sign ( + ) at the top of the Course Menu. Click Content Area.  Give it a Name.  Put a check in Available to Users. Click Submit. Then click to open it.
   
  2. From the menu along the top, click Build Content/ New Page/ Module Page.
    
3. Give it a Name ~My Media.
    
4. Optional:  add an explanation or instructions.
    
5. Click Submit.
    
6. Click to open the new module page you just created.
    
7. Click Add New Course Module / My Media - Add.
   
  8. Click Okay.

How to add My Media to a Content Area (ex. Course Information) >Add Module Page

Click Content Area.  Give it a Name.  Put a check in Available to Users. Click Submit. Then click to open it.

3. Give it a Name ~My Media.
    
4. Optional:  add an explanation or instructions.
    
5. Click Submit.
    
6. Click to open the new module page you just created.
    
7. Click Add New Course Module / My Media - Add.
   
  8. Click Okay.

Download and Link CaptureSpace Lite

1. Click the My Media link (you may need to click a second time to open the tool).
2. Click Add New/ CaptureSpace Lite
3. Select and download the installation file for your computer.
4. Click
Run to activate the installation file and install CaptureSpace Lite.
5. Go back to UNM Learn/ Your course / My Media/ Add New menu and select CaptureSpace Lite again.

Once you have followed the procedure above, and launched CaptureSpace Lite through UNM Learn, you do not have to do it again. CaptureSpace Lite is a small is a stand-alone application; it now lives on your computer.  You may see a shortcut for it on your desktop.  The next time you want to use it, simply click to launch it.  For the recording operations, you do not even need a connection to the internet.

**If you have problems with audio, check the Settings tab/ Select a Microphone to make sure the device being using is correct.

Edit your media - Trim, Chop, Add a Title slide

CaptureSpace Lite gives you several basic editing options: you can trim unwanted material from the beginning and end of your recording, you can chop out extraneous material from the middle, and quickly add a Title slide.  These same editing options are also available through the My Media tool and can be used online at any time.  Here is a closer look...

Upload a Video to My Media

As noted, one of CaptureSpace Lite's great qualities is that you don't have to be online to use it.  That said, the process of loading your files to My Media in UNM Learn is also easy! 

1. Click the Library tab. 
2. Select the recording you would like to upload.
3. Enter metadata for your media and click Save.
4. Click on Upload to begin uploading to the website.
5. After the video finishes uploading, a notification with a link to the recording is displayed.  Click the link to go to log in and be taken to My Media.

Your Recordings Stored on your Computer - Library Tab

To see a list of all the files you currently have on your computer, click the Library tab.  This is also the tab to select if you have recorded at an earlier time and now wish to upload your work:  Click to select the desired file.  The window with the upload options will open.
