Relinking Kaltura Media Files

Kaltura Media that has been linked in a previous course and copied forward may generate the following error upon playback by you or your students:

“Either you are not logged in or you do not have the appropriate privileges to perform this action.”

This is one way the error displays.

This is the second way the error displays.

In most cases, the fix is simple:

  1. Navigate to the media link.
  2. Mouse over the right side of the title until you see the drop-down menu.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Then click Submit.

Students will not be able to access the media until you relink the content.  If the steps above do not work:  set the mashup item with the broken link to 'Unavailable,' relink the video, move it up into the desired position, go to Student View to confirm that it plays, return to Instructor View and clean up by deleting the broken link.

1. Click the chevron next to the title of the broken content> from the drop-down menu click Make Unavailable. Make a note of the title.

From the drop-down menu, click Make Unavailable.

2. Click Build Content > Kaltura Media

Build Content is a button along the top portion of the screen. Click to open it. Choose Kaltura Mashup from the second column near the bottom of the list.

3. The My Media screen will load. Locate the video that needs to be relinked and click Select.

From your My Media collection, click to select the video that needs to be relinked.

4. The Create Mashup Item screen will load with your list of media items.  Add the Title you noted in step 1 (required) and Description (optional). When ready, click Submit.

On the new screen, enter a Title. Description is optional. When ready, click Submit.

5. The mashup link you just created will be added at the bottom of your content area. Hover over the left edge of the newly created content until your cursor becomes a four-sided arrow. Click and drag the content into place.

Mouse over the left side of the new item, then click and drag upwards to put it in the right spot.

6. Click Go To Student View, find the video and confirm that it plays correctly.  Then click Return to Instructor View.

7. Navigate back to the Kaltura Mashup items. Click the chevron next to the title of the broken mashup item to access the drop-down menu > Click Delete.  Click OK to confirm the delete.

If desired, delete the old, broken link. Click the chevron to reveal the drop-down menu. Delete. Okay.
