Program Overview

The University of New Mexico’s Organization, Information & Learning Sciences (OILS) department offers an online post-bachelor’s certificate in the Leadership for Innovation in the New Economy program. This non-degree program is composed of graduate level courses that focus on developing leadership skills in preparing organizations, agencies, communities, and schools for success in the new knowledge economy.

The OILS certificate programs were established to offer working professional an opportunity to upgrade their skills and knowledge, which can have the added benefit of job promotion, additional job qualifications, or new career opportunities. 

Learning Goals

In your online coursework, we will examine knowledge management, organizational learning, workforce development, eLearning, and collaboration. The program emphasizes a learner-centered, community-centered, interactive approach to online learning, where participants engage in hands-on activities and work collaboratively on complex, authentic projects to develop products for immediate, practical use in the work environment.

Program Details

The certificate program totals 12 credit hours. Below is a listing of all of the required courses and the planned offerings.

  • OILS 510 Designing Knowledge Management Solutions
  • OILS 530 Theory and Practice of Organizational Learning
  • OILS 593 Global Workforce

Plus one of the following elective courses:

  • OILS 511 Collaborative Knowledge Creation
  • OILS 531 Culture and Global eLearning

Degree Requirements

In order to gain entry into the certificate program, a student must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
